Parent Variables:
* whether or not the parents of the child who receives corporal punishment approve of the practice. School personnel are all too frequently confronted by angry parents after their children have been hit at school with some such confrontations having violent outcomes.
* children who come from homes where parenting skills are limited, inconsistent, or altogether absent are placed at risk of finding themselves in trouble until they acquire self control and an understanding of accepted social behavior.
* A parent may have hit and bruised their child prior to sending the child to school only to blame school personnel for the injury upon learning their child had been corporally punished at school.
