He went on: “It is well known that where a man is entrusted with money or property and help himself he is dealt with severely, and rightly so. You were entrusted with something very much more important, the welfare of young boys, and you used them to gratify what I can only describe as your own sadistic desires.”
The Judge added that it had been pointed out by the defence that he had done good work in the past, but that offered no excuse. “I accept as is clear from the evidence that occasions you acted in anger, but more often I regret that on the evidence it is reasonably clear that you acted in cold blood.
“I am faced with the fact you became, whatever your past, an evil man, and there is no other word I can use.”
