Plea by wife of gaoled head
FROM A STAFF REPORTER
SALISBURY, NOV.2
Mr. William Byrd, the headmaster sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at Winchester Assizes in May for cruelty and assault on pupils at Cholderton College, Wiltshire, hopes to attend a college of education when he leaves prison, and to qualify to teach in a state school.
An Independent Schools Tribunal was told this here today by Mr. Michael Hoare, for the Department of Education and Science. He said that Mr. Byrd had stated this in lodging his appeal against his being banned from teaching.
