The leaflet accompanying the election address was headed –

“From the London Budget of March 23, 1913.”
“Countess Aids Flogged Boys.”
“Allegations on Punishment of Convalescent Boys in the Infirmary with Five-Tailed Lash.”
“Strong Complaints before Camberwell Board of Guardians.”

Mr. McCall concluded by saying that if the defendants would express the regret for what they had done and withdraw the charges they had made against the plaintiff and pay his costs he would be quite content. If, however, the defence was to be persisted in he would ask the jury to mark their disapproval of the defendants’ conduct by awarding the plaintiff substantial damages.
