I never asked him or my sister but I have always wondered for those school children who only received school corporal punishment once-whether it was slipper, cane, ruler, hand or paddle etc-did the punishment they received work as far as teaching them the cosequences of misbehaviour and they learnt their lesson or was there another factor?

It’s revealing that you mention two people who were only caned once. For many school children, I’m sure a first taste of the cane was enough to persuade them not to misbehave again (or at least, not to get caught!). Evidently it didn’t work that way for you though. Maybe they didn’t cane hard enough at your school. Did you and your sister get it on the hands or the backside?

I wouldn’t have thought the slipper or the ruler would have had quite the same effect, but the cane was a different story.
