Overwhelmingly, they were of the servant class, and all were dead and mutilated by impalement on stakes, decapitation, dismemberment, massive gunshot trauma, extensive burns, and even a couple who had been sliced completely in half. Unsurprisingly, the Queen was not among them, and it appeared that she and most of the court ladies had survived, evidently leaving their male population – once Alexandru’s fellow serving-maids – to fend for themselves… and fail spectacularly. Had it not been for his late arrival, Alexandru himself would no doubt have been one more among that party of mangled corpses.
