I never cease to be amazed by the stories of this nature, and why it was allowed to continue. Although it was not a practice used at any of my schools, I do wonder about the calibre of teacher’s in British schools. Sending a pupil into the hallway makes me feel the teacher was weak in controlling his class and using his authority.
The other issue is the patroling of senior teacher’s and Headmaster’s specifically looking for students standing in hallways. They must have had some sort of a CP fetish to go around looking for boys to cane. And they must have had very little to do if they could afford the time to go stalking the hallways. Sounds like a waste of tax payers money, letting them get away with doing it.
