Erin could see that Hailey wasn’t going to take no for an answer, and she was too exhausted to argue further anyway, so she allowed Hailey to take her to the bathroom and help her strip down. Hailey gave Erin a wet washcloth and a towel, and while Erin cleaned and dried herself, Hailey took Erin’s wet pajamas and sheets down to the laundry, and brought Erin some clean underwear and pajamas.
“I don’t know where the clean sheets are,” she told Erin as Erin dressed, “but if you want to share my bed for the next couple hours, that’s fine with me.”
Erin was too tired to disagree. They went back to Hailey’s bed, and Erin fell asleep quickly.
Hailey lay awake for a little while. Her parents had tasked her with making Erin feel at home.
